To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Madrid Protocol, Spain convenes a International Conference on October 4, 2021. The Conference will be a unique opportunity for the States Parties to the Antarctic Treaty and the Protocol of Madrid review the achievements made in the environmental protection of Antarctica during the 30 years of existence of the Protocol, reflect on the challenges that present in the next 30 years and discuss concrete measures of conservation as the establishment of new Marine Protected Areas.
High-level panels will bring together leading scientists and experts to discuss the different challenges facing Antarctica: adapting to change climate and its mitigation, natural resource management and activities human resources and technological research and innovation. Next will be held a ministerial round of the States Parties to the Antarctic Treaty and the Protocol of Madrid.
